The response to the book that I produced of Lloyd Jones’s photos on his family’s behalf has been surprising, to me at least. His former partner, Evelyn, ordered an initial print run of 50 copies, which sold out very quickly, as did the second run of 50. The third batch, this time of 80 copies, is currently on sale. Evelyn’s a smart cookie, and I’m sure she has good reason to believe that these will sell, too. The books were priced to enable donations to be made to two local causes dear to Lloyd’s heart, and it looks like they’ll each receive something of the order of £400.
I’ve produced photo books of my own stuff in the past, although these were only single-copy albums, purely for my own satisfaction. Buoyed with the confidence that a book that I produced, albeit of someone else’s work, who was very well known and popular locally, has been so well received, I’m of the mind to produce one of my own, for a wider audience than just myself.
I have the broad concept ready to start work on, but whether it will be a book, or just a zine, is still undecided. I’ll carry on assembling candidate images for inclusion before making a final decision.
