My mission to buy back the old Fujifilm S8100fd bridge camera that I donated to Oriel Colwyn many years ago in today’s “Darkroom Clearout Sale” event was successful. Not only was the camera intact, but it was still boxed, with all its original accessories and in pretty much the same condition as when I donated it (which suggests that it didn’t get used much…).

Not only did I buy the S8100fd, I bought a Fujifilm A900 compact camera, which predates even the S8100fd. I had an A920 and enjoyed using it and the spec of the A900 is pretty much identical, so I though “why not?”.

By today’s standards, both cameras are pretty primitive, but that was part of the appeal and would add to the fun of trying to get decent images out of them. The image included here is one of the first with the S8100fd, taken just a few minutes after leaving the gallery. No edits, straight out of the camera. Not a great work of art, but not bad quality.

I was pleased to see that the sale was well attended, with lots of photographers eager to pick up a bargain or three, whether it was a very nice Nikon SLR, or a humble filter. I hope it brought in a lot of money to help the gallery to continue putting on their excellent exhibitions and events.
