We all have photographers with whose work we identify, or admire. You can usually spot their work without being told whose it is, and so it is with me. There’s one contemporary photographer who has a very individual approach to street portraiture in particular, although not exclusively, and who uses colour in a very distinctive way, which combine to make his work instantly identifiable, to me at least. I won’t name him, to avoid embarrassing him (in the unlikely event that he sees this), but his initials are NM.

A few days ago, I posted this image that I captured with my phone while walking my dog in my neighbourhood. I posted it on BlueSky and lo and behold, NM liked it. Most unexpected. Even less expected was to be notified that he is now following me, given that he’s only following 55 other people on BlueSky.

This is a huge compliment to a photographer like me who flies under the radar. I shall bathe quietly and smugly in the reflected glory for a little while. Thank you, NM.
