The site’s name, “StreetSeen” is a sort of hangover from when it was established to feature the work of a collaborative group of North Wales street photographers. That group has long since ceased to function and I kept the site as a personal web space. It served as a place for all of my photography and, as such, was a little too general.
It’s time to redraw the site and to focus on its original purpose – street photography, which is a genre that I love. Work is underway to do that and it will take a little while to complate, as I curate the content for the new presentation.
In the meantime, it may help to define the parameters of what I consider street photography to be. Many street photographers insist that it is entirely to do with showing people in the urban environment, in all their gritty reality. For my own part, I feel that is too limiting a definition. The clue is in the name “street”. The street can yield many wonderful images, with or without the presence of people. Whether it’s a reflection in a shop window, a broken street lamp or an unusual architectural detail, or the architecture in general, they all count as “street”. because that’s the environment that prompted the images.
I hope you’ll come back when the site’s rebuild is complete and enjoy the new approach.
