I’ve been using BlueSky for a little less than a year. In this time I’ve amassed (sic) around 248 followers which, for me, is quite a lot. I’ve been posting my own photos, reposting others’, commenting and “liking” like a good ‘un and following back where I think there’s a degree of similarity in postings. In short, I participate, and in a positive way.
But I have had several followers who do none of these things, test attract significant numbers of followers. The latest, who shall remain anonymous, has 172 followers, without having posted, reposted aor taken part in any meaningful way.To be fair, they’ve “liked” about 240 other accounts, but why follow back, if there’s nothing to follow?
I guess it could just be that some of the people that he simply follows back, perhaps out of courtesy? Or maybe they, like me, have abandoned X/Twitter, and have brought some of their followers with them. Perhaps it’s simply the dark algorithms generating followers, or a combination of all three.
Whatever’s going on, it makes little sense to me.
