I’ve been considering ditching X/Twitter for some time because of its sheer toxicity. Ever since Elon Musk bought the platform, it has steadily descended into a pit of nastiness, populated by some of the most aggressive people who mistake freedom of speech for a licence to spout the vilest rubbish. The level of engagement I was getting for my photography had steadily decreased, being replaced by general awfulness.
Over almost the last year, I’ve been using BlueSky which, to anyone familiar with X/Twitter, will be very easy to adapt to. There are some minor differences, but it’s functionally very similar. The main benefit, though, is the friendliness of the whole BlueSky community. I’ve experienced none of X’s unpleasantness, and the engagement with other users is considerably greater. (I don’t expect a huge audience for my photos, but I’m getting more than I did, with more positive feedback.)
So, farewell to X’s storm clouds. The sky is bluer elsewhere.
